From 2020 to 2022, Omnicure had the privilege of partnering with the federal government to effectively implement the National Emergency Tele-Critical Care Network (NETCCN). Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the call for telemedicine solutions rose, and this innovative solution helped to mitigate the crisis. Through this initiative, our TeleICU systems were sent to hospitals across the nation, from rural facilities to urban centers, experiencing growing demands. Our flexible technology expanded staff capacity during the peak of the pandemic, allowing more patients to receive care.
Our partnership with the NETCCN demonstrates how important adaptable TeleICU tools can make an impact during dire situations. Our technology is scalable and device agnostic, making it easily installable and usable for a range of care facilities. This came in especially handy during the pandemic, where staff needed easy solutions fast. While delivering quality care during a straining time, here are some of the key lessons from this experience:
- Healthcare Can Not Grow Without Adaptability - As mentioned, the COVID-19 pandemic was a hard reality for many, and it emphasized the need for solutions that can be applied to many circumstances without compromising care. Throughout our time with NETCCN, we witnessed firsthand how adaptability supported the success of telemedicine. At Omnicure, our TeleICU platform was built from the ground up to be device‑agnostic, cloud‑based, and rapidly deployable, meaning hospitals could scale its use across care settings with minimal delay. Plus, our technology provided a wide range of remote specialists, ready to tackle any challenge.
- Simplicity is the Backbone of Effective Solutions - The NETCCN arrived at a high-pressure time, as healthcare professionals were working under the stress of amplified patient numbers and chaotic settings. Because of this, facilities needed systems that were simple to understand and easily deployable across the workforce. Our model is very intuitive. can be implemented within a week, and does not require large hardware to give real results.
- The Time to Prepare Is Now - The pandemic was not something even the most intelligent staff could prepare for. However, it is never too early to learn about new technologies to advance care at a facility. While the NETCCN was developed out of extreme necessity to save lives, the technologies from this partnership can be implemented today to solve problems before they arise.
